1 INTERNATIONAL OPEN INNOVATION PROGRAM
MATCHER is the International Open Innovation program based in Emilia-Romagna region that aims at supporting local companies to address specific business challenges by creating strategic matches with other actors of the international innovation ecosystem, in particular start-ups and scale-ups.
The fourth edition involves three types of actors: 12 selected companies from the Emilia-Romagna region, national and international start-ups and scale-ups and all the actors from the Italian and international innovation ecosystem.
The fourth edition addresses challenges regarding Data-Driven Innovation and they are grouped into three thematic clusters:
- DATA COLLECTION AND ELABORATION TO SUPPORT OPERATORS
- DATA ANALYSIS FOR STRATEGIC DECISIONS
- DATA USE FOR MACHINE AUTOMATION AND PERFORMANCE
3 Key Events
The program is composed by three key points:
MATCH.POINT – the International matching program dedicated to the 12 selected companies based in Emilia-Romagna and to the admitted start-ups/scale-ups with the goal of addressing the companies’ challenges. Companies and start-ups/scale-ups have about 3 months to match, connect and find opportunities to co-create solutions around shared business needs.
BIG.MATCH and FINAL.MATCH – the closing moments of MATCHER, where further matches, as well as networking with the national and international innovation community, will take place.

PRE-CALL
January – February 2024
Corporates have been interviewed to prioritize their objectives and needs around innovation, strategy, and future-proof solutions during a workshop and 1to1 calls
INTERNATIONAL ROADSHOW
March – July 2024
International Roadshow to scout startups from all over the world operated in the three fields of the Data-Driven Innovation topic
CALL IS OPEN
March 25th, 2024
Startups admitted to the program have to meet two criteria: high-level fit with corporate partner challenges and candidate maturity (min. TRL of 4)
STARTUP/SCALEUP PREPARATION
March – July 2024
Startups are supported by professional consultants to be prepared to meet the Corporate partners through virtual learning and 1to1 meetings
MATCH.POINT
Starting April 2nd, 2024
Corporate partners and startups matchmaking meetings to build and create win-win relationships aiming to improve their business following the Data-Driven Innovation thematic
BIG.MATCH + FINAL.MATCH
November 14th and 28th, 2024
An Open Innovation event will be opened to innovative companies, startups, research labs and international guests, invited to give inspirational speeches

- Big data elaboration for personalizing patient journeys, from clinical trial to therapy customization
- Managing heterogeneous data to generate actionable insights for operators in mobility and logistics

DATA USE FOR MACHINE AUTOMATION AND PERFORMANCE
- Accelerating predictive maintenance activities through advanced data gathering and processing
- Generating synthetic images to train AI models for agricultural tasks
